Star magnolias, saucer magnolias,
Ornamental cherries and Bradford pears . . .
The pageant is under way at last,
It's in full spring;
And even though winter claimed a few victims,
Some casualties of cues misread—
My potted bulbs among those lost—
The boisterous boom of regeneration
Continues apace from start to end
Like a pyrotechnic sparkly splurge,
From snowdrop and ajuga winks
Until the crape myrtles blast and burn.
