Untitled

This is my private life
And you are a part of it, like it or not.
A see-through bubble of sorts surrounds me,
Wholly insubstantial, but real.
Neither glass nor ectoplasm
Could hem me in,
Yet inhibition and diffidence
Form a barrier tougher than steel.
In chummy conversations, I never reveal
My inner passions; for who can expose
His vital viscera to wind and rain
And dilettantish scrutiny?
But once my thoughts are embalmed in print
And I leave the room, the fear is gone.
The words will stand when the fool cannot—
Stronger than adamant, sharper than acid,
Straight-backed and self-assured,
Defiantly mute as sentinels,
Humbly ostentatious and true.
