Let me tell you about a man named Joe Workman. Joe Workman prided himself on a job done right. He was always employed and when he wasn't he would get hired with another employer rather quickly. His proficiency in finding work was somehow connected to his name, I'm sure. Some would say our names can really influence what happens within our lives, others would deny that but I believe what I see and I see Joe Workman works, I see Joe Workman's got a job. If his name was different he would likely work anyways so I say his name is icing on the cake.
Wherever Joe Workman works he usually earns his honor as a top employee. He does his work as directed and he makes an effort to make sure his work is of a high quality. Management recognizes his attention to detail and dedication to quality, offering him a chance to advance. Joe takes on the new work with enthusiasm, happy that hard work pays off.
Joe Workman has worked at several companies during his career. At each of these companies he's been given raises and advancements. His employers knew he would do his job correctly no matter what work they would assign him.
He quit a few jobs. He didn't want to quit but with the way things were and the challenges he was presented with, quitting was really the right choice. He wouldn't go without though and he would find new work quickly. His name was partially to credit, I'm sure.
Life is always centered on work for Joe Workman. His employment is necessary and he works a lot of hours, but although his jobs often use up a lot of time it is what he does off the job that makes him truly happy. Of course though, without his job, those other things he enjoys wouldn't be conceivable. Without a job all he would do is job search and those other things would find an abrupt end. He knows life can't be all play.
Joe would say, "You get what you pay for." And that saying would prove itself true time and time again. Joe paid for everything he owned. He didn't believe in financing. If he couldn't afford what he wanted with one easy payment he would pass. He made sure his savings was excessive as he believed life couldn't be fun if you weren't ready to do anything at any time. "Never broke" was a rule he uh, never broke.
Joe Workman was a bachelor much of his life. Married once, one daughter, he would find himself divorced but he wasn't alone a week. He would find himself plenty of girlfriends when his marriage to his high school sweetheart went off the rails. He goes out often with new women, casual dating and the occasional fling.
Being the sort of bachelor he is, luxurious activities are his usual specialty. He would go on benders, drink, party, socialize and have a great time. He would press his limits, known was his over-the-top behavior and wild personality, especially when he was drunk in the wanton eyes of women. "He's always got it going on." Friends of his would say.
He lived a full life and he always would find a way to enrich the only one he got. Joe would say, "You live once, enjoy the whole thing." And live his life fully is what he did. He loved his family and would visit them when he wasn't going out. He maintained a healthy relationship with his ex-wife and daughter, visiting them with regularity.
Other activities he enjoyed outside of all that already mentioned was dune cart driving on the weekends with his girlfriend. They would hit the trail and go on their own personal adventures. He would take her swimming and they'd watch the sun set. He collected rock and roll shirts and rare guitars although he only knew drums. He could sing and that talent on his drum set proved useful as he would record drum parts under pseudonyms and make chunks of extra cash on his recordings.
Joe thought that if he invested right and if he carefully followed a long term well thought out business plan that someday he wouldn't need to work. If he could succeed outside of work and profit enough he could quit his job permanently. He used his recording profits on various stocks and bonds or deposited it all into his savings. His plans were to save up enough extra cash to open his own business. Some of his good friends would joke, saying, "What are you going to call it, The Workman Company?" He would reply, "Very funny, I'm going to change my name when that day arrives." What he was going to change his name into wasn't yet decided but he wrote some ideas on a notecard.
Joe Workman told many a tale about odd things he could only attribute to his name. Here's one of those tales in his own words:
"Now I ain't a superstitious nutcase but I know my name influences my life outside of the normal. That's one reason why I always keep my phone fully charged but that's another chat I can get on with some other time. This one here was one that you can't believe but I will tell it to you anyways. So I'm driving and I see a bunch of naked women on the side of the road. Why there were naked women on the side of the road I couldn't tell you but I talked to one of them and she said she always walks around like that. Now I don't know about you but pretty naked women aren't usually wandering around outside. There they were though. With my own two eyes that's what I saw. And none of them were together either. They were a minute or so driving time one to the other. One of them got in when I asked her if she needed a ride. I asked her where she needed to go and she said, 'work'. I laughed about that a while before I could gather myself enough to say, 'You're going to work and my name is Joe Workman, what kind of coincidence is this?! Anyways, I gotta say, I never seen anyone go to work naked. What sort of business are you in?' She said, 'I'm a perfume saleswoman.' We passed another naked woman. I said, 'well, I'd seen a bunch of naked women on the side of the road, do you know each other? Do you know that one right there?' She said, 'No. Don't know her. Never saw her before.' I said, 'Yeah right, whatever.' She said, 'It doesn't matter what you believe, tell this with truth.' I took her where she wanted to go and asked her if we could get in touch. I was really worked up over her and I couldn't focus very much on the road with a butt naked sexy woman in the seat right next of me. She wrote her information out on paper and next time I saw her she was wearing clothes."
That was what Joe Workman told me. If you don't believe me then you can ask him yourself. Anyways, Joe Workman eventually saw his plans go the way he wanted them, quitting his job and changing his name. He made enough to get his own business up and running. He said, "With a new name like this gone are the unexplainable little ditties I would often go through like being cast in a play I didn't want to see. Nowadays I don't even think about all that because it doesn't happen anymore."
