The Witch is what appears to have been an independent film, which came out late last year or early this, set in pre-Colonial America, in which a family of Pilgrims, disgusted by the hypocrisy and, as they see it, "false Christianity" of the other members of their community, set out their own to establish a homestead somewhere in the New England woods. Events then occur which are intense and scary, being both literal and metaphoric. This film is very well done, not least because the writers did the research to put accurate period dialogue in the mouths of the film's excellent actors. I am famously bored and unimpressed by most movies these days, but was engrossed by this right through to the end.
